Who else needs to push the reset button and take a work break?

Happy Wednesday!

I have had the busiest week, and the last two days especially have been nonstop. It feels like my energy has been pulled in a million directions and I am ready for a break.

I had planned to write a blog post today about thrifting; tips, tricks, and why I thrift most of the things I own. I fully intend to write that post some other time, but not today. As I sat down to write the post, it felt forced and unnatural.

I have been working so hard at my blog; making social media content, learning to write fiction, basically giving myself an English degree, and publishing on my blog each week.

If you are like me and find yourself always working at something, with the tendency to fill all your free time with something productive, it is likely that you are dominant in your masculine-energy. Or, maybe you're dominant in your feminine, but have been influenced by the fast paced masculine world we live in.

Your feminine energy is artistic and creative and is expressed through relaxation and play, while your masculine energy is all about productivity, logic and being active. Our society is hardcore masculine energy. Think about factories—they produce 24/7. The work we are forced to do, and the number of hours we spend doing it, makes it hard for us to be in our feminine, so much so that most people don’t even know it exists.

This is my favorite chart that shows the differences between these two energies. When your masculine is doing and thinking and pleasing, your feminine is being and feeling and creating. By no means are these energies based on gender/sex, as they are both natural to our being and necessary to our functioning. It is not to say that one is better than the other, however it's likely that there is one you are dominant in and one that needs some work. It is crucial for us to find a balance within them.

As I am working on my blog and my writing “career,” I am being careful to not let the tendency of my masculine energy take over what I enjoy doing. I find it so easy to take something that was once a hobby, and put so much pressure on myself to make something more of it. I am working to find the balance between my masculine and feminine, so I don’t forget that this is more than just work to me, it is what I love to do, and I want it to stay that way.

With that being said, that is all today’s blog post is going to consist of. Today, I am reminding myself that above everything, I am to listen to my body and not force myself to do work that doesn’t feel right.

Today is a sort of reset button that I needed so bad. Next week, I will come back to the keyboard, remembering that this is what I love doing—and something I want to do, not need to.

I will spend the rest of my day relaxing, which I don’t give myself much time for and reminding myself that I value other things more than my level of productivity.

If you are like me and find yourself always working, always producing something, join me in finding that masculine/feminine balance. I think it is something we all need right now. Some ways to embody your feminine energy are to; embrace your creativity, dance, play, do things you used to when you were a child, read, write, spend time with animals or in nature, etc. Visit this website, and many others for more ideas.

I hope that if you are in this situation right now, or next time you feel that pressure, you remember this and allow yourself that time to relax and play, too.

Love always, Abby Long
